Variable image printers add either small data like addresses or whole pages from computer instructions. For years direct mailers have added variable data to letter, envelopes, and so on using ink jet, ion deposition, or laser. And short run printers make short run color with the Heidelberg DI, Indigo, HP, or other computer driven device. These machines have come from nowhere to create a whole new catagory.
